Minister of Economic Affairs Maria van der Hoeven wants to look into possibilities of a longer working week.
The 36-hour working week is no longer sacrosanct. This also holds for retiring at the age of 65. The minister said this at the presentation of the report entitled: ‘The Dutch Economy 2006’ presented by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on Thursday.
Van der Hoeven announced that the cabinet will present measures to stimulate longer working hours on Budget Day (the third Tuesday in September). She declined to indicate which measures the government proposes to take.
