The Perfect Officially the Enemy of the Good

So ruled a judge in Chelan County, Washington state, when he ordered 1,678 illegal votes should be subtracted from the total number of votes cast in November's election. But, that he couldn't tell what effect that would have on the 129 vote margin of victory of Democrat Christine Gregoire.

No, the FLUBA Committee on Twisted Judicial Logic is not making that up. The overwhelming majority of those illegal votes came from one county that went 78% for Gregoire, but, the judge couldn't deduce what that might have meant for the governor's race. Perhaps his calculator's battery went bad, and he couldn't determine that if 54% of those illegal votes were Gregoire's the winner would have been Republican Dino Rossi.

The Republicans have not announced whether they will appeal the decision to the Washington State Supreme Court.
